Hi peeps! It's been a month since my last post & sorry for that! Brand new job has been taking up pretty much of my time and brain juice. Anyhow, hope you had a great Feb cause I had a fantastic time pigging out in Miri for my 13 days long break for CNY. If you've been following my IG, you'd be surprised I had gained 2kg then lost 2kg. Here are some of my list of must have if you're in Miri!
1) Claypot Yee Mee - RM6
Xiang Xiang Coffee Shop,
Opposite Pujut 7 (Next to Piasau Industrial)
Tho there are creepy uncles who will stare nonstop at you, keep calm & eat on! Piping hot claypot yee mee noodle soup with yam, prawn, pork, fish maw, fried tofu & vege.
2) Kampua Mee - RM2.50-RM3.00
Any Chinese Coffee Shop in Miri
Kampua or Mee kering is the staple food for all Sarawakians and you can find this at any Chinese coffee shops. For Muslim friends, there are halal versions available at the local malay eateries. One tip about eating in Miri is to check out the crowd. If it's packed, you won't go wrong!
3) Herbal Beef Noodles. RM10
Nancy Beef Noodle Shop
Opposite Permaisuri Imperial City Mall
Tried this with my sis in Miri town (opposite Permaisuri Imperial City Mall). The regular ones cost RM8 and we got conned into hot pot serving for the price of RM10 (difference is that herbal soup placed in hot pot). This is the dried version with bee hun. Noodle soup is fairly peppery and has herbal tang to it. Make sure you ask for normal ones to save RM2!
4) Assortment of kueh-mueh
RM6 for Goreng Pisang & Karipap
Little Roadside Stall opposite Boulevard Shopping Mall
Street vendors sell some of the best assortment of kueh. For Semenanjung friends, just try everything cause it's cheap & good! No, didn't see any plastic bottle in the making. :P
5) Foochow Hung Ngang (Foochow Bee Hun)
RM7 at QQ Duck at Pelita Commercial Area
In case you're wondering, Hung ngang is the Foochow beehun, made with rice flour. Love this recipe as the soup was 'kaww' with generous ingredients. Most popular menu is the "Zao Cai Hung Ngang" (Preserved Vege Bee Hun). Don't think you can ever get this in KL for this price!
Hung Ngang Egg. I liked that it is much lighter but they could've done better with the foochow red wine. Lacked that little thang but still good for the price!
6) Sugarbun's Fried Chicken
Available at any shopping malls in Miri
Every anak Borneo knows Sugarbun. If KFC is the 'it' place for fried chicken in Semenanjung, then 'Sugarbun' is the 'it' place when it comes to childhood fast food joint! Trust me, you have to try it to believe it. Only available in East Malaysia.
AYAM GORENG!!!!
Okay, part 2 updated* click here!
XOXO
