There are times when you just don't have time to make breakfast in the morning. And there are times when you already get sick of bread, pastry and noodles. Just google overnight oatmeal to see what it's all about. Overnight oatmeal takes about 10 minutes to make and saves you heaps of time in the morning after.
Basically, there's no perfect recipe for oatmeal. You get to add whatever and however much you like. For my homemade oatmeal, here's what you need:
1. Oats/Muesli/Dried Fruits (About one cup)
2. Fruits (I used kiwi, dried apricots & strawberries here) (1 kiwi, 3 strawberries & some dried apricot)
3. Plain Yoghurt, milk or soy milk (About 10 tablespoons, depending on the size of your glass jar)
4. Chia Seed (3 tablespoon)
5. Glass Jar (with lid)
Here comes the creative part. Layer the ingredients to your liking for facebook or instagram posts. Once your oatmeal has survived selfies, mix it all up. Make sure lid is tight and leave it to chill overnight in your fridge. *If you like your fruits fresh, you can skip the fruit dicing/slicing step and garnish it the day after.
Hm...maybe mixing all up wasn't a good idea! - First try
Tadaaah!! As for taste, um......wasn't successful due to the overnight & weird fermented kiwi smell & taste. *sob sob* Oh well, I drizzled honey to balance the taste. Discarded the rest.
I tried the same recipe again without fruits - Aud's overnight oatmeal 1.0.
- Played creative, by using champagne glass. Covered it with another cup. It got as hard as cake the next day. Fixed it by adding more yoghurt. That's why you should use glass jars. Duh!
- Tasted great with basic ingredients like muesli, oat bran, chia seed, dried apricot & yoghurt.
Just for instagram! |
After couple of failed attempts, here's Aud's oatmeal 3.0 tips:
1. Keep it simple & in a glass jar. You can add fruits at each serving.
2. Add soy milk/milk to increase moisture.
Anyways, hope you'll try it! Happy making! :)
