Fat to Fab: #4 Soup

I wish I could have hearty warm soup everyday...I always blame it on the busy and hectic schedule in KL, it is tough to make homecooked meal everyday after the hectic jam after work. With the lovely streak of rain clouds for the past month, I want to just slurp away all day!

For those of you who do not cook, don't worry because it ain't as complicated as you think. Just make time for prep work, throw everything in to the pot & just let it boil. This is one of my fav tip for weight loss because it prevents you from overeating.  Let me share 4 simple easy favourite recipes with you! :) You don't need to be a masterchef to be good at making soup ya..

Why Soup?
  • High water content - feel full easily
  • Fiber and vitamins in vegetables - you won't get fat with excess vege! 
  • Suppresses your appetite to overeat
  • Faster weight loss!!

Vege Soup: Simple easy ingredients you can find in your fridge and healthy soup in 15 minutes? I forgot the name of this vege, same family as "Mani Chai/pucuk manis" (Ones serves in pan mee). 

Recipe:

Handful of picked leaves/pucuk manis
50-100g thinly slicked pork
20 Goji Berries
2 tbsp Ikan Bilis/ Dried Anchovies
1 Egg

How to make in 15 minutes (3-4 servings):
1. Broth - Boil water in a pot, then add ikan bilis
2. Add minced pork & goji berries into broth
3. Add leaves and let it boil for 5-10 minutes
4. Once done, add egg & stir (so you get bits of yummy protein)

Pork Ribs with Radish Soup: Chinese love their pork ribs broth soup and you can go crazy with your preferred combination.

Recipe:

500g pork ribs
1-2 pinch Dried Baby Shrimp (easily found in Sarawak, so fresh you can eat it on its own)
1 Radish (Diced)
1/2 Carrots (chopped)
5-6 Red Dates
Goji Berries (About 20-30)

How to make: (Prep -5 minutes, Cook - 2 hours, 5-6 servings)

1. Blanch your pork ribs (Must step to get rid of blood & impurities).
2. In a clean big pot, boil water and add your blanched ribs + dried shrimps, boil for 15 minutes on high heat.
3. Add radish (Takes longer time to boil & soften) & carrots into pot.
4. Add your dates and goji berries at the last 15-20 minutes.
5. Salt to taste

Weight Loss Tip: It's all about portion control. Suggests one scoop of brown rice, generous greens, moderate protein and one bowl of soup.
