Songkran 2019 in Bangkok

You'll never experience Thailand 🇹🇭 till you've experienced Songkran. ~Oh So Aud

This has been an overdue post but I had to share. You've never experienced Thailand till you've joined their Songkran festival.

Celebrated as Thai's Buddhist New Year, it used to be more of dance, parade and folk stuff but in the modern days it's evolved into fun, water fight fest to beat the crazy heat. Songkran is celebrated from 13-15 April each year and most Thais will travel back home to celebrate with their families, so expect street vendors and city quieter, while malls will be bustling with tourists.

Boy, and for 2019 did we experienced one of Bangkok's hottest season ever.. 38 degrees but actual feel of up to 44 degrees.. Talk about as hot as oven 🔥!

Some Tips:
1) Stay updated on Thailand current news before you plan your trip - political or national factors could affect whether events are allowed to be held. Eg. in 2019,the same week as the coronation of the new King, hence popular streets like Khao San Rd were closed. And everyone gathered at Silom Rd instead. 👇🏻

2) Waterproof yourself - it's gonna be so wet. Be sure to pack light, dri fit clothing (and undies), waterproof bag, waterproof phones, waterproof mascara etc.

3) Water guns - the bigger, the better. It's the battle of size here, so the bigger gun you have, the safer you'll be. 😂
*Some streets charge 10baht for water fun refill and some are complimentary. Do check and ensure you have spare change for fun..

4) Songkran rave parties - there are parties held, however please be aware of the rates in order not to be scammed. Was quoted few hundred baht, as we arrived just 30 mins before the end of the rave party. Imagine how hard it'll be to get taxis or grab cars.. Plan ahead

5)Bring your inner child & 💦 on!
Me & sis at Silom Rd

One of the best experience ever and you forgot the treacherous hot weather for a day 💦
